About the Bible

We believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of the Scriptures, that they consist of the Old and New Testaments, that they are inerrant in the original writing and are the supreme and

ultimate authority for faith and practice, the Word of God.

About the Godhead

We believe in one God, eternal, existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; one in substance, perfect in every divine attribute, yet varied in office.

About Salvation

We believe that all are sinners worthy only of spending all of eternity away from God and Heaven and that Jesus Christ paid our penalty on the cross making salvation available to all who will confess and repent of their sin and accept Christ as both Savior and Lord. We also believe that once a person is genuinely saved he is always saved.

About the Church

We believe that each local church is to be an independent body with Christ as its head and responsible only to the Lord Jesus Christ. Further, we believe that each local church and every member of it is responsible for fulfilling the Great Commission by reaching out to others with the gospel.

Our History

Calvary Baptist was started in 1956 by a group of believers who felt a great need for an independent, fundamental, Baptist church in the City of Visalia. We started as a prayer group.  In 1958, the church held its very first service as a church. It was then officially organized and named in 1959. Originally, we were a member of the Baptist General Conference, but we became fully independent in the 1970s.

We purchased the current church property in 1961 and our building was formally dedicated in October 1982.   In 1990, a fire destroyed part of the main building. However, the Lord helped our members to remain strong and the church was rebuilt.  It was rededicated less than 9 months after the fire did its damage.

We invite you to attend our services and worship the Lord with us. We are a group of people who are completely in love with the Lord. Our aim is to serve.  Our purpose is to reach out with the Gospel to all who will listen.  We would be honored to have you as our guest.
